Camp Tipton is located in the southeast section of Blount County about 20 minutes from the Great Smoky Mountain National Park on US Hwy 129.  The 68 acre facility is located between an established residential area and farm land.  Centenary Creek, a year-round stream, flows through the lower portion of the camp and includes a five acre, wooded wetland dotted with rock outcrops that create a unique landscape.

There is a 20+ acre slopping pasture above the creek that overlooks the western horizon.  The upper portion of this pasture is an ideal spot to enjoy an evening sunset with a group at the end of a busy day.  This pasture includes native grasses, wild flowers, and small wildlife.  Early morning visitors may see turkey or deer on the property.

The other 35 acres contains all the camp buildings.  These facilities include:

Pavilion Area: An open, grassy area with gravel parking and scattered shade trees

  • 36′ x 80′ covered, open air,  pavilion equipped with a small kitchen and bathrooms
  • children’s playground equipment
  • 30′ x 50′ sand volleyball court
  • outdoor basketball court
  • 12′ x 60′ wing-shaped deck (wired) overlooking the spring
  • underground spring and small pond
  • outdoor challenge course including 10′ & 8′ climbing walls, totem pole, spider web, 8′ x 8′ deck
  • 300′ x 350′ ball field
  • Nine hole (home-made) frisbe golf course that surrounds the ball field

Paintball Course: A two acre area currently situated near the far corner of the property next to the creek. This facility has been constructed using pallets, used metal roofing, telephone pole remnants, and other donated items.  The course is flat and open.  Groups engage in a variety of scenarios led by camp staff.  There is a “safe area” where spectators can watch the activities behind a mesh screen.

Multi-Purpose Building (Gym): Centrally located between the ballfield and the cabins.  This 100′ x 120′ building overlooks the main area of the camp property.  The bathhouse is attached to the north end of the gym.

  • Parking:  A large gravel parking lot approximately 120′ x 150′ in dimension.  Large groups will easily park 40+ cars in this area by having three rows facing the building.
  • Bathhouse:  Each bathroom is equipped with four vanities, six showers, six toilets/urinals.  This area has central heat/air and includes washer and dryer annex.
  • Gym Floor includes a full-size basketball court; 10′ bouldering (horizontal climbing) wall; 20′ multi-dimensional climbing wall; portable aluminum bleachers for 70+ campers; and volleyball court equipment (high quality, poles mount in the floor, adjustable tension net).  The gym area is equipped with gas heat.  During the summer we use an exhaust fan and louvered vent to circulate air through the main area of the gym.  The main floor of the gym does not have air conditioning.
  • Dining & Kitchen:  We use a section of the gym floor for dining and have tables and chairs for 100 people.  Meals are served buffet-style or over-the-counter by camp cooks.  The kitchen equipment includes: commercial, 3 door cooler, four upright freezers, 5 rack convection oven, 18′ x 32″ griddle, commercial over with 4 eye stove top, three six foot stainless steel tables, coffee and tea brewers, three bay stainless steel sink, 500# ice machine, and a stainless steel top, rolling serving table.  The kitchen is equipped with central heat/air.
  • Mezzanine above the Kitchen:  A five foot wide stairwell leads upstairs to a mezzanine that includes a 12′ x 12′ landing and two 16′ x 18′ meeting rooms equipped with central heat and air.  Plexi-glass windows provide a view of the gym floor.
  • Full-service, RV Hookup:  One site for a full-sized RV is set up adjacent to the gym on the north end of the parking lot.  RV’ers usually prefer parking parallel to the building.  Level, gravel parking right next to the gym, this is convenient, but not private since it is in the main parking lot.
  • Cottage:  This 12′ x 16′ building is located just below the gym parking lot and adjacent to the ball field.  It is currently used as an extra cabin for senior camp staff, but may also be used as a day camp office, concession stand, or guest house.  This cabin in close to the bathhouse, and is equipped with A/C, ceiling fan, lights, outlets.  There is room for several cars to park on either side of the cabin.

Cabin Complex: Located immediately behind the gym and bathhouse on an auxiliary gravel road surrounded by mature hardwood trees.

  • Eight, frame, 12′ x 16′ cabins, each equipped with lights,  A/C, and one electrical outlet
  • Scooby-Doo Cabin:  A bus converted to sleep eight; includes lights, A/C, electrical outlet
  • Amphitheatre with a 10′ x 12′ deck and bench seating for 100
  • Hiking Trail that borders the upper perimeter of the property and winds its way back to the Pavilion Area
  • Limited gravel parking for up to six vehicles
  • Gravel path leading down a moderate slope to the bathhouse and gym (about a 120′ from the closest cabin to the bathhouse)

Operations Complex: This area houses support buildings.  Our facilities manager/caretaker and family live in a cozy, white house about 200′ inside the main gate.  The drive to their home also leads to the following buildings:

  • 12′ x 16′ covered fire pit
  • 24′ x 108′ Disaster Relief Building: A five bay garage for camp and associational vehicles bracketed by 24′ x 24′ enclosed rooms.  The room nearest the facility manager’s residence is used to store disaster relief supplies.  The room at the other end of the building is used by the camp for maintenance supplies and craft storage.  Home repair ministry supplies are also stored in this room.
  • Workshop:  A 24′ x 24′, two bay garage where we store lawn care equipment, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.  This building is equipped with electricity and florescent lighting.
